Description

Camphor is a white, crystalline substance with a strong, penetrating aroma, derived from the wood of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora), native to Asia, especially Japan, China, and parts of India. It has been used for centuries in religious rituals, traditional medicine, and home remedies due to its cooling, purifying, and therapeutic properties.

There are two main types of camphor available: edible camphor (also called food-grade or “pacha karpooram”), used in very small quantities in traditional Indian sweets and Ayurvedic medicine, and synthetic or industrial camphor, used externally in religious ceremonies and medicinal applications like balms, ointments, and inhalants.

Camphor should be stored in an airtight container, away from direct sunlight and heat, as it sublimates easily, meaning it can evaporate at room temperature.
