Description

Corn silage is a high-moisture, fermented forage product made from the entire above-ground part of the corn plant, including the stalks, leaves, cobs, and grain. It is one of the most important and widely used feed sources for ruminant animals, especially dairy and beef cattle. Corn silage is harvested while the corn plant is still green and the kernels are at a milk to dough stage, which ensures a high content of digestible energy. After harvesting, the chopped plant material is compacted and stored in silos, bunkers, or plastic-wrapped bags, where it undergoes anaerobic fermentation.
